Welcome to Year 3
Dear Parents and Carers
The autumn term topic is What did the Romans ever do for us? during which we will be learning about Julius Caesar, the Roman Empire, and its effect on Britain. We will be visiting Verulamium (St Albans) to observe and explore Roman artefacts and learn more about the Roman life in Britain. In Numeracy, we will be looking at Roman numerals, which will link closely to our topic. We will also be consolidating the children’s knowledge in solving problems using different operations. Children will also develop their maths skills through real life situations and investigations. In Literacy, children will look at stories based on the uprising of Boudicca and the rebellion against the Roman Empire.
The spring term topic is Every Picture tells a Story with a focus on the study of ancient Egyptian life and its influence on the western world. We will visit The British Museum to look at the artefacts and visit The National Portrait Gallery.
The summer term topic is All things Bright and Beautiful where the children will have opportunities to learn about Darwin and his study of different species. We will visit the Royal Institute of Great Britain, where the children will be given the opportunity to be scientists for a day.
Science topics this year are: Rocks & Soils, Light, Plants and Animals.
We are working on our handwriting. Practise these patterns to help improve your joined-up writing!
Our school policy is that homework is sent home every Friday and should be returned every Wednesday, signed by parents. You will receive a report card at the end of term to keep you informed as to how your child is progressing at school.
PE takes place every week. Please ensure your child keeps their PE kit in school.
Please feel free to talk to us if you have any concerns or would like to visit us in class.
